{"id":15341,"date":"2012-11-06T18:35:23","date_gmt":"2012-11-06T08:35:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/?p=15341"},"modified":"2013-03-25T22:31:03","modified_gmt":"2013-03-25T12:31:03","slug":"16000-to-remove-graffiti","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/2012\/11\/06\/16000-to-remove-graffiti\/","title":{"rendered":"$16,000 To Remove Graffiti"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>November 6, 2012<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>South Burnett Regional Council will get a $16,000 grant from the State Government to either rid local areas of graffiti or give a facelift to community facilities.<\/p>\n<p>All of the State\u2019s 73 councils will share in funding for the next four years to ensure public buildings and amenities are looking their best.<\/p>\n<p>Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington said the Council can decide how it uses the money.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome communities are more seriously affected than others but our government won\u2019t confine grants to the big cities,\u201d Mrs Frecklington said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn line with the Newman Government\u2019s view of empowering local communities, the South Burnett council will decide how best to use the money.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Local Government Minister David Crisafulli said graffiti was costing councils thousands of dollars each year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhether it\u2019s a pedestrian bridge or a picnic table, locals are proud of their community assets and they don\u2019t want them to be tagged by graffiti vandals,\u201d Mr Crisafulli said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCouncils may also choose to paint a mural on a wall or give a lick of paint to a public toilet.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEither way, we know the local community will get bang for their buck.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In conjunction with the grants, Crime Stoppers will run a new State-wide GraffitiSTOP hotline, website and Facebook page so people can alert authorities to new graffiti by phone 1300-472-334 (6:00am to 6:00pm Monday to Fridays excluding Public Holidays), text or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.graffitistop.com.au\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>online<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The initiative will also give Council the opportunity to join with the Department of Community Safety to use community service offenders to help remove graffiti where appropriate.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>South Burnett Regional Council will get a $16,000 grant from the State Government to either rid local areas of graffiti or give a facelift to community facilities.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[22,3],"tags":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v19.11 -
