St Mary’s students create a colourful homage on stage to the upcoming Rio Olympic games<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

It’s that time of the year when South Burnett parents get bowled over by all the young talent on show on school stages … and on Friday night, it was the turn of St Mary’s Catholic College in Kingaroy.<\/p>\n

Students from Prep right through to Year 12 took turns performing routines ranging from a selection of songs from the award-winning musical ‘Matilda” through to a history lesson set to music by Year 6.<\/p>\n

The P&F got into the act as well, with a performance that provided a short synopsis of the cycle of life, from birth to starting school, getting P plates,\u00a0being grandparents and then finishing with a sentimental presentation of \u201cWe Are Family\u201d.<\/p>\n

The second half of the night was introduced by the Year 12 band of Caylan Brown, Ashley Reinbott, Jackson Lucas and Seraiya Gordon who performed CCR’s “Proud Mary” and Jet’s “Are You Gonna Be My Girl”.<\/p>\n

The evening also included a \u00a0tribute to the Rio Olympics, a walk through the decades of dance, some classic TV theme songs and a “Back to the Future” inspired performance.<\/p>\n

To finish the night, the Saint Mary\u2019s College staff celebrated 50 years of \u00a0ABC’s Play School, with six Play School songs and dances.<\/p>\n

Principal Angela Myles said it was great to see how how much fun the teachers had with the performance.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe way the night came together was a credit to the whole school community,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Guest judges for the evening were CROW-FM brekkie announcer Chris “Corky” Corcoran, St Mary’s Adopt-a-Cop\u00a0Senior Constable Todd Armstrong and\u00a0Michelle Rutley from Brisbane Catholic Education.<\/p>\n

“Rock On Stage” is a highlight of the school’s Catholic Education Week celebrations.<\/p>\n

It will be Kingaroy State High School’s turn on Friday night.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The school’s annual Flair Concert will be held at Kingaroy Town Hall from 6:30pm.<\/p>\n

Tickets are $7 for single admission (or $5 if pre-purchased at the school) or $15 for a family of four.<\/p>\n

The popular annual concert is organised by Year 12 students as a fundraiser for the High School\u2019s Chaplaincy program.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
