An upgrade to Cherbourg’s recycling facility is one of 63 projects shortlisted by the State Government for funding under Round 2 of the Building Our Regions program.<\/p>\n

The Cherbourg upgrade is vying against projects submitted by Councils from across Queensland.<\/p>\n

State Development Minister Dr Anthony Lynham released the shortlist<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>on Thursday.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe shortlisted councils have until August 19 to provide detailed submissions for final assessment,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis next stage is highly competitive and applications will undergo rigorous assessment by the Department of State Development and a committee of senior executives from across government.<\/p>\n

\u201cI expect to announce successful projects in the fourth quarter of 2016 and construction will be expected to start no later than June 30, 2017.”<\/p>\n

Forty-two Council projects received grants under Round 1 of the program.<\/p>\n

The “Building Our Regions” program is the Labor Government’s replacement for the LNP’s “Royalties For Regions” scheme.<\/p>\n

Under the Labor program there are three funds administered by the Department of State Development:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Regional Capital Fund<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n
  2. Royalties for Resource Producing Communities Fund<\/a>, <\/strong>and<\/li>\n
  3. Remote and Indigenous Communities Infrastructure Fund<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    These programs have been allocated $70 million in Round 1, $85 million in Round 2, and $70 million in Round 3.<\/p>\n

    The fourth fund is the Transport Infrastructure Development Scheme (TIDS), managed by the Department of Transport and Main Roads, which has been given $150 million to distribute over five financial years.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
