An elderly Kingaroy man has been flown to Nambour Hospital after a collision between a semi-trailer and a 4WD towing a box trailer on the Burnett Highway north of Nanango on Thursday morning.<\/p>\n

The man, aged in his late 70s, received cuts to his head in the incident.<\/p>\n

Emergency services personnel on the scene said he was very lucky to be alive.<\/p>\n

Police investigations into the cause of the crash are continuing, but Sergeant Jason Newton, from Nanango Police, said it appeared the semi-trailer came into contact with the box-trailer that the man was towing.<\/p>\n

The trailer separated from the Mazda trayback ute and ended up in the middle of the highway near the intersection with Robin and Lee Road, while the 4WD plunged down an embankment and rolled.<\/p>\n

QFES cut the roof to free the driver from the wreck.<\/p>\n

The semi-trailer driver was not injured in the collision, and the front of his truck suffered only minor damage.<\/p>\n

The Sunshine Coast-based LifeFlight helicopter landed on Robin and Lee Road to transport the man.<\/p>\n

Ambulance paramedics and a doctor on board the helicopter attended to the man at the scene before he was flown out.<\/p>\n
