The Cherbourg Hornets were wearing some funky new polo shirts when they travelled to North Ipswich at the weekend to take on the Kingaroy Red Ants.<\/p>\n

The Hornets were sponsored by UnitingCare Community which provided “No More Violence” polo shirts for all the players and officials.<\/p>\n

UCC program manager Paul Gray said the organisation had been approached for sponsorship for the game after the march against domestic violence that was held in Cherbourg earlier this year.<\/p>\n

UCC operates shelters in Kingaroy and Cherbourg for victims of domestic violence.<\/p>\n

“The players and officials (are wearing the shirts) as a show of support and unity and want to reinforce and follow on the message that was sent out to the community through the DV march,” Mr Gray said.<\/p>\n

The South Burnett A Grade game was played in Ipswich to coincide with the Ipswich Jets’ \u00a0Indigenous round of the Intrust Super Cup.<\/p>\n

A large crowd turned out to enjoy the day of football.<\/p>\n

The Kingaroy Red Ants turned on a good show in the first half, scoring two quick tries before half-time to be within two points of the Hornets, who led 18-16 at the break.<\/p>\n

But Cherbourg showed no mercy in the second half. The score at full-time was Cherbourg 52, Kingaroy 32.<\/p>\n

In an echo of the past, radio station 4UM Us Mob broadcast a live call of the game.<\/p>\n

In the televised Intrust Super Cup game, Ipswich put themselves back into finals contention with a 34-20 win over Central Queensland.<\/p>\n
