South Burnett Saints ran away in the second half to record a strong win over the Goondiwindi Hawks in their AFL Darling Downs game played at Lyle Vidler Oval in Kingaroy on Saturday.<\/p>\n

At the first change, the home team were behind 4.2 (26) to\u00a0\u00a03.5 (23).<\/p>\n

At half-time the margin was even narrower … the Hawks were ahead by just one point, 7.9 (51) to\u00a07.8 (50).<\/p>\n

But then the Saints changed gears, kicking three goals to one in the third quarter and an impressive seven goals to three in the last.<\/p>\n

This was a big turnaround\u00a0from last week’s game where they faltered in the last quarter against Warwick.<\/p>\n

The final score was South Burnett\u00a018.15 (123) to Goondiwindi’s 11.11 (77).<\/p>\n

Saints’ goals were kicked by Carl Stevenson (6), Ty Snow (5), Nathan Trace, Matt Patroni, Joshua Miller, Kieran Askin, David Black, Paul Judge and Adam Bowater.<\/p>\n

The Saints’ next game will be against the Highfields Lions at Highfields on Saturday (July 9).<\/p>\n

In the women’s competition, the Goondiwindi Hawks made short work of the Saints on Saturday.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The final score was 36.13 (229) to\u00a02.0 (12).<\/p>\n

Saints’ goals were kicked by Jessica Langton and Kayla Smith.<\/p>\n

The Saints women’s team has a bye next weekend.<\/p>\n

Young sports star Shaleise Law’s Australian Rules career is continuing to soar.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The former Cherbourg resident, now connected to the Brisbane Lions, has been selected in the 2016 Youth Girls All Stars squad.<\/p>\n

She will attend a live-in camp from September 1-4 in Melbourne with other young AFL players.<\/p>\n
