The Kingaroy Bowls Club are sprucing up for their next big competition, the annual Men’s Open Age Fours Carnival, which will be held this weekend (July 9-10).<\/p>\n

This competition offers a substantial $5500 in total prize monies, and nomination fees are $240 per team of four.<\/p>\n

The Carnival usually draws a very good roll-up of skilled bowlers from all quarters, so there’s lots of entertainment to be had for spectators too.<\/p>\n

Naturally, the club wants to look its best for visitors, so recently Men’s President John Lacey dropped by Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington’s office to pick up a new Australian flag the club had ordered a little while ago.<\/p>\n

As it happened, the Deputy Opposition Leader was in her office that day, so the moment was recorded for posterity.<\/p>\n

Nanango News<\/strong><\/h2>\n

After playing the Burnett District Men\u2019s Champion of Champions fours and pairs the previous two weekends, the Champion Of Champions singles were decided at Nanango Bowls Club last weekend. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Once again, club officials said they were disappointed only five clubs chose to enter this year’s competition, but some very good games were played nonetheless.<\/p>\n

  • Allan Wright [Nanango] def. Peter Ward [Wondai] 25-17<\/li>\n
  • Neil Chauvior [Tansey] def. Glen Turner [Kingaroy] 25-20<\/li>\n
  • Allan Wright [Nanango] def. Les Hedges [Murgon] 25-5<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    In the final, Nanango’s Allan Wright defeated Tansey’s Neil Chauvior 25-10.<\/p>\n

    On Tuesday, June 28 a few courageous bowlers braved the cold weather for a game.<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Joe Aglizzio, Trevor George and Allan Ward 19 defeated Cec Bracken, Lew Saunders and Brian Havell in a very close 19-18 contest.<\/p>\n

    And in the Semi-Final of the B Grade Singles, Henry Bliesner proved too good.<\/p>\n

    Henry won the match 25-11 against opponent Mike Smith.<\/p>\n

      Yarraman News<\/strong><\/h2>\n

      The Yarraman Bowls Club is gearing up for the second round of its monthly Yarrabutt Lawn Bowls Challenge this Thursday, July 7.<\/strong><\/p>\n

      The Yarrabutt is a mixed gender monthly competition between bowlers from the Blackbutt district and Yarraman district, and takes the form of a game over 18 ends with two points for an end and five points for a win.<\/p>\n

      Players are randomly allocated to a team closest to their home, and a position of play, by a draw out of a hat.<\/p>\n

      The Yarrabutt kicks off with a morning tea at 10:00am (coffee, tea and biscuits supplied) before the match gets underway at 10:30am, and is followed by a bring-a-plate shared lunch.<\/p>\n

      All points are accumulated towards a Christmas event.<\/p>\n

      At the moment, the score is Yarraman 1 – Blackbutt 0.<\/p>\n

      * * *<\/strong><\/h3>\n

      Here’s another one for the diary: on Saturday, July 16 the Yarraman Bowls Club will be holding a 3 Bowls Triples match for self-selected teams.<\/strong><\/p>\n

      The match will be played over two games of 12 ends, with two points for an end, five for a win, and no dead ends (respot the jack).<\/p>\n

      Teams will be allocated to rinks for the first game, then allocated to new rinks for the second game.<\/p>\n

      In the event of a tie, the highest score wins – but if there is still a tie, then the prize money will be evenly divided.<\/p>\n

      Names need to be in by 11:00am for a noon start, and the $10 per player green fees will help fund the prizes, which range from $90 per team for first place down to $60 for the runners-up team and $30 for the third place team.<\/p>\n
