November 3, 2012<\/strong><\/p>\n

Well-known Toowoomba businessman Terry Kronk was killed this morning when his P-51 Mustang crashed near Helidon.<\/p>\n

Mr Kronk – who is well-known to the South Burnett aviation community – had just taken off from an airstrip beside the Emu Gully Adventure Education Centre in his silver replica P-51.<\/p>\n

Witnesses said they saw the plane plunge into trees and explode about 9:45am after an apparent engine failure on take-off.<\/p>\n

A man taking part in a first aid course at the centre rushed to Mr Kronk’s aid but was unable to save him.<\/p>\n

The man, in his 30s, was later hospitalised for minor burns to his legs and smoke inhalation.<\/p>\n

The crash also sparked a large grass fire which was brought under control by 11:00am.<\/p>\n

Mr Kronk had been intending to take part in Toowoomba Aerodrome’s centenary celebrations today, where a number of vintage aircraft were on display.<\/p>\n

He is survived by his wife and two daughters, aged 16 and 18.<\/p>\n
