The Clontarf Foundation – which is working with Indigenous youth at Cherbourg State School and Murgon and Kingaroy State High Schools – will receive $5 million under the latest round of funding from the Federal Government’s Indigenous Advancement Strategy.<\/p>\n

The funding was announced in Tamworth on Saturday by Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce and Indigenous Affairs Minister Nigel Scullion as part of a $24 million youth support package by the Coalition.<\/p>\n

Mr Joyce said the package would deliver mentoring, scholarships and other education support to 10,000 young Indigenous men and women across Australia.<\/p>\n

Clontarf CEO Gerard Neesham thanked the Federal Government for its ongoing support and said the additional funding would enable the foundation to assist more young men more quickly.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe exist to improve the education, discipline, self-esteem, life skills and employment prospects of young Aboriginal men and by doing so, equip them to participate more meaningfully in society,\u201d Mr Neesham said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are fully committed to continuing work in our current locations and are absolutely determined to reach more young Aboriginal men who could benefit from a Clontarf program.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Clontarf Foundation is currently running programs in Western Australia, the Northern Territory, Queensland, NSW and Victoria.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
