{"id":149083,"date":"2016-06-20T13:28:43","date_gmt":"2016-06-20T03:28:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/?p=149083"},"modified":"2020-10-12T15:03:21","modified_gmt":"2020-10-12T05:03:21","slug":"council-makes-1-8m-surplus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/2016\/06\/20\/council-makes-1-8m-surplus\/","title":{"rendered":"Council Makes $1.8m Surplus"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_147632\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-147632\" style=\"width: 200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/ros-heit-200.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-147632\" title=\"Ros Heit\" src=\"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/ros-heit-200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"325\" srcset=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/ros-heit-200.jpg 200w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/ros-heit-200-185x300.jpg 185w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-147632\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">SBRC Finance Portfolio chair Cr Ros Heit<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>June 20, 2016<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The South Burnett Regional Council will bring down a $1.83 million surplus this year, well up on the $59,000 it forecast when it handed down its 2015-16 Budget 12 months ago.<\/p>\n<p>Finance portfolio chair Cr Ros Heit reported the surprise turnaround at last week&#8217;s Council meeting.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cr Heit said the surplus had come about from a:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>$43,000 increase in waste collection rates<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>$110,000 increase in scrap metal recycling revenue<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>$1,185,000 increase that resulted from an adjustment to internal charge rates for materials and services<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The remainder ($497,000) came from a $1.275 million windfall the Council received last October, the balance of which has since been spent on capital works projects.<\/p>\n<p>Cr Heit said the change was welcome because the Council had seen a $475,000 revenue decline in other areas of its operations over the last twelve months.<\/p>\n<p>These included a $79,000 drop in tourist park income, fuel sales, stockyard fees, animal fees and cemetery income; a $182,000 decline in investment interest, largely due to a fall in interest rates; a $14,000 drop in income from immunisation services; and a $201,000 decline in grants income.<\/p>\n<p>The Council will be handing down its 2016-17 Budget next Monday, June 27.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Related article: <a href=\"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/2015\/10\/council-receives-1-2m-windfall\/\">Council Receives $1.2m Windfall<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>UPDATED June 27, 2018:\u00a0 This report originally stated that Council had achieved an &#8220;operating&#8221; surplus.
