Federal politician to drop into the South Burnett bearing gifts this week was Indigenous Affairs Minister Nigel Scullion, who accompanied LNP candidate for Wide Bay Llew O’Brien on a visit to Murgon and Cherbourg.

Along the way, the pair announced a number of funding commitments to assist the local community, including a $396,698 project to install 41 security cameras in the Murgon CBD.

The CCTV network project was unveiled by former police officer Llew O’Brien to representatives from the Murgon Business and Development Association (MBDA).

The MBDA has long been pressing for an upgrade to Murgon’s solitary security camera which sits on the roof of the local Visitor Information Centre.

“I have always been keen in preventing it’s a great way to gather evidence of crime and everywhere that these have been implemented under the Federal Government’s Safer Communities Fund, they have been a great boost.

“They’re a great boost for confidence locally, but also tourism as well.”

Mr O’Brien said this was the biggest CCTV project for the Wide Bay
