Unions are organising a community rally to be held in Kingaroy next week in support of workers at the Tarong Power Station.<\/p>\n

This follows the recent announcement of \u00a0job losses at the station and the adjacent Meandu mine.<\/p>\n

Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union (CFMEU)\u00a0District Vice President Shane Brunker said all unions involved at the site would be involved, including the Electrical Trades Union, Australian Services Union and \u00a0Australian Manufacturing Workers Union.<\/p>\n

He said he hoped mine employees, family members of Stanwell employees, \u00a0and members of the general public would also attend to show support for the workers and hear an update directly from the unions on what has been happening with Fair Work Australia.<\/p>\n

The rally – which is not a stopwork meeting so no work time will be lost – will be held on Saturday, November 10, from 9:30am.<\/p>\n

Mr Brunker said 140 families would be displaced from the community which would have a flow-on effect to local businesses.<\/p>\n

“We need to come together and send Stanwell Corporation and the politicians a message from the Tarong employees that we need reliable employment if we are to maintain a vibrant and prosperous region for everyone to enjoy,” a flyer for the rally states.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
