The State Government has asked tourism industry representatives and the public to have a say on a new draft Queensland Drive Tourism Strategy.<\/p>\n

Tourism Minister Jann Stuckey said the strategy aimed to encourage more travellers to take a driving holiday in Queensland.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur regional cities and towns rely heavily on the drive tourism market to support their local businesses, and we want to take advantage of the great opportunities this growing market represents,\u201d Ms Stuckey said.<\/p>\n

\u201cDrive tourism is a key element of the Newman Government\u2019s DestinationQ action plan.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe strategy will stimulate and re-energise the drive tourism market through a coordinated approach between government agencies, local governments, regional tourism organisations and other organisations such as the RACQ.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe tourism industry has been crying out for a co-ordinated strategy and this will help us achieve our goal of doubling overnight visitor expenditure to $30 billion by 2020.\u201d<\/p>\n

RACQ Executive Manager Tourism Andrew Millward said the consultation paper demonstrated a united approach to “turbo-charge” the drive tourism market in Queensland.<\/p>\n

\u201cRACQ has a long history of promoting the benefits of drive tourism, and by pooling our resources, we\u2019re working together to encourage Queenslanders to holiday at home, while also enticing interstate visitors to explore the Sunshine State\u2019s diverse landscape,\u201d Mr Millward said.<\/p>\n

Caravanning Queensland CEO Ron Chapman also welcomed the strategy.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am pleased to see the current government has recognised the Drive Tourism sector which has long been neglected,\u201d Mr Chapman said.<\/p>\n
