Local residents will have their first chance to have a say on the proposed $500 million wind farm at Coopers Gap near Kingaroy from Saturday (June 11).<\/p>\n

Mines Minister Dr Anthony Lynham said comment would open on draft terms of reference for the project\u2019s environmental impact statement (EIS).<\/p>\n

“Consultation is a very important part of the EIS and I encourage people to take a look at terms of reference and have their say,” Dr Lynham said.<\/p>\n

“There\u2019ll be more opportunity down the track as well to comment on the EIS once it\u2019s submitted to the independent Co-ordinator-General.”<\/p>\n

AGL Energy Limited proposes to build and operate a 350MW wind farm that could potentially supply power to an estimated 180,000 households using up to 115 wind turbines.<\/p>\n

The project could create up to 350 construction jobs and ongoing employment for up to 20 people in the region.<\/p>\n

The wind farm proposal was declared a co-ordinated project earlier this week.<\/p>\n

Terms of reference are available online<\/strong><\/a> and in local libraries.<\/p>\n

The period for public comment will close on July 11.<\/p>\n
