are all now $1000 better off, thanks to the National Council of Women of Queensland (NCWQ).

The three women all applied for NCWQ bursaries and were awarded them at the NCWQ’s annual bursary presentation in Brisbane last Thursday night.

The three local winners were Rebecca Clapperton, from Nanango, who won the South Burnett Mayor’s Bursary; Jessica McNamara, from Nanango, who received the Elsie Byth Bursary; and Rebecca Rynne, from Windera, who received a regional bursary.

Former Nanango State High School student Amber Weinhold – who no longer lives in the region – also won a bursary.

Rebecca Clapperton was unable to attend the awards ceremony because she had to prepare for exams, so it was accepted on her behalf by her mother Libby who is a teacher at Yarraman State School.

In all, a total of 26 bursaries were presented on the night.

The South Burnett Regional Council, Logan City Council, Moreton Bay Regional Council and the City of Ipswich sponsored four of them, and the remainder were sponsored by other contributors.

Most of the students who attended said they intended to use the money for textbooks so they can further their studies.

This year’s wins follow the award of an NCWQ bursary to Nanango Year 12 student Whitney Horwood in 2014 so she could study to be a chef; and another to Kingaroy nursing student Cassandra Noonan in 2015 to further her own studies.

Related
