The Royal Hotel in Murgon will be getting a facelift in the near future.<\/p>\n

Owners Mark and Jennifer McDonald told members of the Murgon Business and Development Association (MBDA) at the MBDA’s most recent meeting they plan to paint the outside of the building in the near future.<\/p>\n

The work will be part of ongoing upgrades to the hotel the couple have been making since they took over the licence.<\/p>\n

The upgrades have already led to the creation of two new intimate dining areas.<\/p>\n

The hotel’s beer garden will also be receiving some extensive upgrades as part of the renovations.<\/p>\n

* * *<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Thieves will have a tougher time at the Queensland Dairy Industry Museum in future, Museum chairman Ritchie O’Neill told the meeting.<\/strong><\/p>\n

A cream can along with a sign opposite the Museum recently went missing, much to everyone’s surprise.<\/p>\n

They will be replaced soon, Ritchie said, but they’ll be much harder to remove to second time around.<\/p>\n

* * *<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The poor attitude of some shop assistants in Murgon has provoked comment from visitors.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The meeting heard some members had recently received complaints about the negative attitude of staff in some businesses, which suggested there was a need for more staff training.<\/p>\n

Sharyn Garrett, from South Burnett Directions, advised members the group were planning to hold workshops on Customer Service and Attitude Training in the near future.<\/p>\n

The workshops will be held at several locations in the South Burnett, including Murgon.<\/p>\n

Sharyn said SBD had planned to hold the workshops during the daytime.<\/p>\n

But after receiving advice from MBDA members that evenings would probably draw higher attendances, she will see if South Burnett Directions can accommodate this in their plans.<\/p>\n

* * *<\/strong><\/h3>\n

There have been several very successful community events run in Murgon over the last couple of months, the meeting heard.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The BP Dam Fishing Classic a huge success, with a $30,000 motor boat and $18,000 tinny given away. The next one will be held in 2017.<\/p>\n

Anzac Day was also very well attended, and a function held at the Murgon Bowls Club to mark Brett and Trevor Otto’s 500km walk from Gladstone to Kingaroy for the Melanoma Awareness Foundation drew good numbers, too.<\/p>\n

Finally, the annual Cherbourg Reconciliation Fun Run from Murgon to Cherbourg – which celebrated its third outing on May 15 – drew its biggest attendance yet, with more than 450 walkers and runners taking part.<\/p>\n

* * *<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Two upgraded car parking areas are on the cards for Murgon. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Plans for an upgraded car park at Castra are moving forward, the meeting was told.<\/p>\n

The project has been verbally approved, and Castra’s operators are just waiting for official confirmation for work to begin.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, a significantly upgraded car parking outside Murgon State School is close to completion.<\/p>\n

The upgrade includes drop down and pick up bays and should help ease traffic congestion in the area.<\/p>\n

* * *<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The Murgon Business and Development Association represents the businesses and community of Murgon and surrounding districts.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The group holds regular monthly meetings and new members are always welcome.<\/p>\n

The MBDA\u2019s next meeting will be a breakfast meeting at Murgon\u2019s Royal Hotel on Thursday (June 9).<\/p>\n

Breakfast is $15 and coffee an extra $4.<\/p>\n
