Nanango’s CBD will get round-the-clock closed circuit TV coverage after Heritage Nanango Community Funding Ltd received an $80,000 grant for the project.<\/p>\n

LNP Candidate for Maranoa David Littleproud paid a visit to Heritage Bank’s Community Branch in Nanango on Wednesday to congratulate HNCF’s board on the initiative.<\/p>\n

HNCF will use the money to install 11 closed circuit TV cameras, two camera poles, wi fi control boxes and transmitters in the CBD and a video monitoring system at the Nanango Police Station.<\/p>\n

The money has come from the Federal Government’s Safer Streets program, which provides support to communities to address crime, and boost crime prevention initiatives that improve street safety.<\/p>\n

Mr Littleproud said the funding was a significant investment in the welfare of the Nanango community.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Mums and dads want to know our streets are safe and secure,” Mr Littleproud said.<\/p>\n

“This funding is an investment in providing local solutions to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour in Nanango and the rest of the district.<\/p>\n

“It improves liveability for families and seniors and sends a clear message that violence and other poor behaviour will not be tolerated.”<\/p>\n

Funding for the Safer Streets program is drawn from the Federal Government’s Proceeds of Crime Account, which holds money taken from criminals, and reinvests it in community projects which help prevent further crime.<\/p>\n

South Burnett mayor Keith Campbell, who also visited the bank on Wednesday morning, congratulated HNCF chairman Wendy Zerbst and fellow board members Andrew Black and Bob Head on the initiative.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“I’m sure CCTV coverage of Nanango’s CBD will be a positive improvement for everyone,” he said.<\/p>\n

Mr Black said he wasn’t certain when the new CCTV system will be installed.<\/p>\n

While the grant has been formally announced, HNCF will need to wait for the funds to arrive before work on installing the new system can begin.<\/p>\n

However, he said several local businesses approached by Heritage Community Branch have already given permission to have CCTV cameras installed on their buildings.<\/p>\n
