An elderly man has been flown to hospital after a dramatic rescue on the Brisbane Valley Highway on Wednesday afternoon.<\/p>\n

The man’s vehicle ended up perched above a shallow creek after it left the highway at Wanora, just south of Fernvale, and crashed beside a bridge.<\/p>\n

Police, who were called to the scene at 2:30pm, don’t believe there were any other vehicles involved in the incident so it is unknown at this stage why the car left the highway.<\/p>\n

Firefighters worked to free the trapped man, aged 70, from the wreckage.<\/p>\n

They secured the vehicle to stop it sliding any further before cutting the roof off the sedan.<\/p>\n

Ambulance paramedics tended to the man while firefighters worked to free him.<\/p>\n

The injured man was then placed on a stretcher and taken by road ambulance a short distance to the Rescue 500 helicopter which had landed on the highway.<\/p>\n

A police spokesman said the man was flown to Royal Brisbane Hospital in a stable condition with non-life threatening injuries.<\/p>\n

The Brisbane Valley Highway was closed while the rescue took place.<\/p>\n
