Cherbourg will get a new Crime Prevention Officer under funding announced on Tuesday by Federal Justice Minister Michael Keenan.<\/p>\n

The Federal Government announced $2.7 million in community safety funding for the Queensland Police-Citizens Youth Welfare Association (PCYC).<\/p>\n

Round 2 of “Safer Streets Program” aims to support communities at the grass roots to help address crime and anti-social behaviour.<\/p>\n

Initiatives include the creation of Youth Support Officer positions at seven locations across Queensland and the employment of Crime Prevention officers in 10 communities.<\/p>\n

The Crime Prevention Program Officer employed at Cherbourg will be tasked with identifying anti-social and criminal trends within the community.<\/p>\n

\u201cOnly safe communities can be strong and prosperous, and the best way to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour is to prevent it from happening,\u201d Mr Keenan said.<\/p>\n

The funding has been drawn from the Proceeds of Crime Account, money taken from criminals and reinvested into prevention of further crime.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
