South Burnett Saints just fell short of a great comeback victory in their clash against University Cougars at Lyle Vidler Oval in Kingaroy on Saturday.<\/p>\n

The home team had a good start and were leading at the end of the first quarter, 5.0 (30) to 2.5 (17).<\/p>\n

Cougars weren’t converting their chances into six points, a problem which hampered them all day.<\/p>\n

At half-time, Saints and Cougars had six goals apiece but the visitors were ahead by eight behinds.<\/p>\n

The third quarter was a tough one for the Saints, with University getting the upper hand in attack.<\/p>\n

At the last change Cougars led 11.12 (78) to 8.3 (51).<\/p>\n

South Burnett threw everything at Cougars in the last quarter, easily outpointing them with strong runs at goal.<\/p>\n

Sadly for local fans, time ran out for home team.<\/p>\n

The final score was 12.17 (89) to 11.7 (73).<\/p>\n

South Burnett goals were kicked by Carl Stevenson (3), Tim Lavender (2), Kieran Askin, Brad Edwards, Brad Pressnell, Nicholas Krauksts, Braeden Snow and Keegan Wright.<\/p>\n

It was another long drive home for the Saints’ women’s side, who were defeated 26.24 (180) to 2.0-12 by the Goondiwindi Hawks at Goondiwindi.\u00a0 Greer Shepherd and Jessica Langton slotted home the South Burnett’s two goals.<\/p>\n

The Saints will continue to play home games for the next two weeks.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Next week, the Saints will play South Toowoomba at Lyle Vidler Oval.<\/p>\n

The week after they’ll play the Chinchilla Suns.<\/p>\n

After this, they’ll have a bye before playing the final match of the first level of this year’s competition against the Warwick Redbacks in Warwick.<\/p>\n

The women’s side will also play South Toowoomba’s women’s side at Lyle Vidler Oval next Saturday.<\/p>\n

The week after they’ll play a combined Coolaroo\/Warwick side at Kingaroy.<\/p>\n
