A campaign by the Nanango Historical Society to save two historic buildings at Nanango Hospital from demolition has paid off, with the Nanango Show Society able to put the buildings to good use.<\/p>\n

Earlier this year, Nanango Historical Society president Ros Gregor learned the Community Health Building and the former Seamstress’ Hut at Nanango Hospital had been earmarked for demolition.<\/p>\n

The two wooden buildings are located at the rear of the hospital complex on land which Queensland Health wants to develop into a much-needed car park.<\/p>\n

At the time, Ros said the buildings appeared to be in a good condition, and could be put to good use if relocated.<\/p>\n

After much negotiations between the Show Society and Queensland Health, that wish has now come true.<\/p>\n

A large section of the old Community Health Building, as well as the smaller Seamstress’ Hut, are due to be shifted to the Nanango Showgrounds on October 6.<\/p>\n

Show Society secretary Victor Maxwell said the larger building would be placed in front of the existing office, and would be used as a committee room and a meeting room for stewards and judges. It would also be available for hire to local groups wanting a meeting room.<\/p>\n

The Seamstress’ Hut will be placed to the right of the main gate, where a flower bed was formerly located, and would become the new Show Society Office.<\/p>\n

Ros said the Historical Society would mount displays in the buildings to record their history.<\/p>\n
