Kingaroy’s Memorial Park is sporting a new pink rose bush ahead of Mother’s Day to help remind visitors about the McGrath Foundation.<\/p>\n

Mayor Keith Campbell, breast cancer survivor Cr Ros Heit and the McGrath Foundation breast care nurse Sue Cox planted the Jane McGrath Rose on Tuesday morning.<\/p>\n

Mother’s Day (May 8) is just four days after what would have been Jane McGrath’s 50th birthday.<\/p>\n

The wife of Test cricketer Glenn McGrath was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1997 at the age of 31.<\/p>\n

Following a mastectomy, chemotherapy and radiotherapy, she was deemed cancer-free. However, in 2003 cancer was detected in her bones, and in 2006 she had a brain tumour removed.<\/p>\n

Throughout her treatments, Jane worked with her husband Glenn to set up the McGrath Foundation to fund McGrath Breast Care Nurses in communities across Australia.<\/p>\n

Jane became gravely ill in mid-2008 and died on June 22, aged 42.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are delighted to show our support for the McGrath Foundation by planting this beautiful rose in our park, as the Foundation helps so many families through uncertain times,\u201d Mayor Keith Campbell said.<\/p>\n

South Burnett Regional Council are also one of the sponsors for this year’s Mother’s Day Classic fun run, which is organised by the Go Getta Girls, in Kingaroy.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The fun morning, a fundraiser for the\u00a0National Breast Cancer Foundation, will be held this Sunday, starting in Memorial Park.<\/p>\n

Cr Ros Heit is the official ambassador for the run.<\/p>\n

Earlybird registrations close online on Wednesday (May 4).<\/p>\n

Kingaroy Rotary will be cooking breakfast and there will also be face-painting, spot prizes, raffles and massages available.<\/p>\n

The fun run (yes, you can walk) starts at 7:30am in Memorial Park.<\/p>\n

There are two lengths: 4km walk\/run or an 8km run.<\/p>\n

Registrations can be made on the day at 7:00am or, to save time and get a discount, register online until May 4<\/a>
\n<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

And don\u2019t forget to dress up in pink on the day!<\/strong><\/p>\n

Cost to enter is $20 for adults (until May 4) or $25 (after May 4); and children $10 (earlybird) or $15.<\/p>\n

There are also family rates available. One adult and up to four children: $30 (earlybird) or $40; two adults and up to four children $50 (earlybird) or $60.<\/p>\n
