Recently elected Toowoomba councillor Nancy Sommerfield confirmed on Friday she has tossed her hat in the ring for LNP preselection for the State seat of Toowoomba South.<\/p>\n

Toowoomba South is currently held by John McVeigh who earlier this month was picked as the LNP candidate for the Federal seat of Groom.<\/p>\n

Groom is held by Ian Macfarlane (LNP), who announced in February he would retiring at the next Federal Election after 18 years in politics.<\/p>\n

The LNP musical chairs means voters will face a by-election in Toowoomba South.<\/p>\n

However, the good news is even if Cr Sommerfield is successful in her bid – and there are other challengers, including businessman David Janetzki from Heritage Bank – there will be no need for a new Toowoomba Regional Council poll to fill the vacant spot.<\/p>\n

The next most successful candidate at the last TRC election, Craig Stibbard, from Geham, would step into the vacancy.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
