Numbers may have been slightly down at this year’s Kingaroy Show Ball, but the mood last Saturday night was decidedly upbeat.<\/p>\n

The Ball, held at Kingaroy Town Hall, is the traditional curtain-raiser for the annual Kingaroy Show.<\/p>\n

The 109th Show will be held on April 30 and May 1 this year, and South Burnett Show Society president Cliff Seiler said he was confident it will offer tremendous entertainment for all ages and tastes.<\/p>\n

On Saturday night, though, the entertainment was tailored primarily to rock and roll dance enthusiasts.<\/p>\n

Show Ball organiser Ros Tigell booked popular Toowoomba rock and roll band The Countdowns to provide the music, and guests came from as far away as Hervey Bay to dance along to them.<\/p>\n

Dinner guests also got to enjoy a supper prepared by the small army of Show Society volunteers who packed out the kitchen, while others happily assisted with running the bar.<\/p>\n

Apart from offering an evening of fun entertainment for Show Society supporters, the highlight of the Ball was the selection and announcement of the Miss Kingaroy Showgirl and Rural Ambassador awards.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This year judges Ian and Sheena McConnel and Michael and Sarah Hannah came from Buderim and Brisbane, respectively, to put the entrants under the microscope.<\/p>\n

Mayor Keith Campbell also ran all entrants through an informal question and answer session on stage before the judges made their final decisions,<\/p>\n

In the end, they picked former Inverell resident Jordanne Green as this year’s Miss Showgirl, and Bachelor of Animal Science graduate Mitchell Francis as Rural Ambassador.<\/p>\n

Both will now go on to represent Kingaroy in the South Burnett’s sub-chamber finals and if they win there, to the Ekka in August to compete with the rest of the State.<\/p>\n

Eleven year old Kristy Young was crowned this year’s Miss Junior Showgirl, and Lauchlan Crawford this year’s Junior Rural Ambassador.<\/p>\n
