Highfields were more on the ball in the third quarter but overall the Saints easily outclassed their rivals<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The South Burnett Saints started this year’s season on a winning note by trouncing the Highfields Lions at Kingaroy’s Lyle Vidler Oval on Saturday.<\/p>\n

The Saints won all four quarters, and clearly outclassed the Lions in three of them.<\/p>\n

In the first quarter, the local team steamed away to a solid early lead, finishing 7.4 (46) to the Lions 1.3 (9).<\/p>\n

The Saints kept up the pace in the second quarter, coming home 14.6-90 to the Lions 4.6-30 by half time.<\/p>\n

But in the third stanza Highfields found new life and actually outpointed the Saints in a high-scoring stanza. Saints seemed to flag a little but still finished ahead 18.8 (116) to 9.8 (62).<\/p>\n

The Saints finished the match solidly by adding another 46 points to their tally, while pegging the Lions back to two goals.<\/p>\n

The final score was Saints 25.12 (162) against the Lions’ 11.8 (74).<\/strong><\/p>\n

Saints kickers were Ty Snow (8), Carl Stevenson (7), Nathan Trace (3), Adam Bowater (2), Kieran Askin, Matthew Patroni, Dylan Bowater, Brad Pressnell and Paul Judge.<\/p>\n

For the Highfields Lions, goal kickers were Glen Clark (3), Lachlan Strachan (2), Jason Beadman (2), and Hayden Smith, Christopher Grundon, Colin Stewart and Luke Bianchi.<\/p>\n
