{"id":142106,"date":"2016-04-17T20:38:38","date_gmt":"2016-04-17T10:38:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/?p=142106"},"modified":"2020-10-18T16:07:37","modified_gmt":"2020-10-18T06:07:37","slug":"lnp-promises-to-reinstate-royalties-for-regions-fund","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/2016\/04\/17\/lnp-promises-to-reinstate-royalties-for-regions-fund\/","title":{"rendered":"LNP Promises To Reinstate<br> Royalties For Regions Fund"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_109019\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-109019\" style=\"width: 740px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/20150527lnp1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-109019\" title=\"20150527 Lawrence Springborg\" src=\"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/20150527lnp1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"740\" height=\"460\" srcset=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/20150527lnp1.jpg 620w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/20150527lnp1-300x186.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 740px) 100vw, 740px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-109019\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Opposition Leader Lawrence Springborg and Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington &#8230; supporting the return of an enhanced and enlarged Royalties for Regions program<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>April 17, 2016<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The LNP has promised to reinstate an &#8220;enhanced&#8221; version of its Royalties For Regions fund &#8211; the program which funded more than $20 million\u00a0 of infrastructure in the South Burnett &#8211; if it is successful at the next State election.<\/p>\n<p>Opposition Leader Lawrence Springborg said on Sunday an upgraded program would focus on projects &#8220;that lead to more investment in the regions, creating economic growth and jobs&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>When it was elected, the Labor Government replaced the LNP\u2019s $495 million Royalties for Regions initiative with the $200 million &#8220;Building Our Regions&#8221; program.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Springborg said this &#8220;smaller, shorter and narrower program&#8221; had more than halved investment in critical infrastructure projects and highlighted &#8220;a lack of commitment&#8221; by Labor to regional development.<\/p>\n<p><strong>However, Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk defended her program, citing criticism from the Auditor-General about &#8220;lack of documentation of the reasons &#8230; for funding many projects over much higher-rated projects\u201d in the original Royalties For Regions fund.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>She said the first round of Building Our Regions had invested more than $70 million in 42 projects around Queensland, with an extra $159 million in co-contributions from Councils and other organisations.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Expressions of interest for the $70 million Round 2 were now open until April 29.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have listened to the Local Government Association of Queensland. Councils now only initially need to prepare an expression of interest,\u201d the Premier said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Department of State Development will assess these expressions of interest, short-list projects and give councils four weeks to prepare a detailed business case for their project.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAssessment will still be rigorous with an advisory committee of eight Directors-General will review DSD\u2019s recommendations before they come to the Minister.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mr Springborg said an expanded program from the LNP would &#8220;help rural and regional communities become economically sustainable&#8221;.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>He said the between 2012 and 2015 Royalties for Regions invested in 147 projects with a combined value of more than $790 million.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe program was designed to be flexible and responsive to emerging local government and regional development priorities,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRoyalties for Regions was particularly targeted at helping communities to better manage the impacts of resources sector development.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mr Springborg said under a new program all projects would need to demonstrate community support and benefits, ongoing viability, value for money and improvements to community infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>Applications from local governments would be encouraged, but proposals would also be accepted by community leaders and stakeholder groups.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington backed the LNP plan to reinstate an enhanced version of Royalties For Regions.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cReinstating Royalties for Regions will really help our local communities meet critical infrastructure needs going forward,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>Mrs Frecklington said the original Royalties for Regions had enabled the State Government to fund critical local infrastructure including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>$10 million for overtaking lanes on the D\u2019Aguilar Highway and Brisbane Valley Highway,<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>$10 million for Kingaroy\u2019s Wastewater Treatment Plant,<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>$2 million for the South Burnett Rail Trail, and<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>$1.5 million for the new intersection on Kingaroy\/Barkers Creek Road.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The LNP has promised to reinstate an &#8220;enhanced&#8221; version of its Royalties For Regions fund &#8211; the program which funded more than $20 million  of infrastructure in the South Burnett &#8211; if it is successful at the next State election.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":20,"featured_media":109019,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[5,3,36],"tags":[1134],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v19.11 -
