The Hornets defence was just too strong for Murgon<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The Cherbourg Hornets were just too strong at home for the Murgon Mustangs in Round 2 of the South Burnett Premier Rugby League played on Saturday afternoon.<\/p>\n

A good crowd at Jack O’Chin Oval watched Cherbourg down Murgon 52-20, although the match was much closer in the earlier stages than the final scoreline indicated.<\/p>\n

At half-time, Cherbourg was ahead 22-10 and the Mustangs looked set for a comeback after Willie Twaddle scored not long before the siren.<\/p>\n

Twaddle scored again in the second half and Charlie Pawien went over the line in the 28th minute, but it wasn’t enough to stop the tide.<\/p>\n

Best for Cherbourg were Cecil Sullivan and Gordon Fisher who both scored three tries apiece, while Nigel Williams scored a double. Robert Miller was kept busy in the kicking duties.<\/p>\n

At Wondai, the Nanango Stags – which were forced to forfeit their Round 1 A Grade game against Cherbourg because of a lack of players – roared back into life in Round 2 of the competition.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The team, put together at the last minute, defeated the Wolves – who were coming off a win – by 44-16.<\/p>\n

Showing a lot of heart, the Stags held Wondai scoreless in the second half.<\/p>\n

In Blackbutt, Kingaroy notched up their second win, defeating the Timbertowners 58-16.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Red Ants also took home a strong win in the U16s, defeating the combined Blackbutt \/ Central Burnett side 46-8.<\/p>\n
