Entries for the inaugural Wondai Street Sprints have opened and drivers and crews need to register quickly.<\/p>\n

The race meeting, which will be held on a newly-resurfaced course at the Wondai Industrial Estate on June 11-12, is expected to attract around 150 cars from all over south-east Queensland.<\/p>\n

The new event has been two years in the planning.<\/p>\n

Wondai Street Sprints president Kevin Krosh and an organising committee from Motors In Motion originally hoped to host the first meeting last year.<\/p>\n

But they found the while the industrial estate was an ideal location, its roads weren’t up to scratch for an event where drivers are expected to travel at very high speeds.<\/p>\n

They approached the South Burnett Regional Council for assistance with resurfacing the roads.<\/p>\n

The Council was unable to assist at the time due to budget constraints, and this knockback led to organisers reluctantly cancelling the 2015 event.<\/p>\n

But last October the SBRC had an unexpected $1.2 million windfall and Councillors voted to apply $220,000 towards the project.<\/p>\n

As soon as the resurfacing was done, the Wondai Street Sprints meeting was back on the table for 2016.<\/p>\n

This week, Wondai Street Sprints organisers released information for competitors.<\/strong><\/p>\n

It includes a list of the car groups that will be racing, entry forms, supplementary regulations, the track layout and entry fee payment options.<\/p>\n
