The South Burnett and surrounding areas voted “No” to the State Government’s proposal to introduce fixed four-year terms for the Legislative Assembly in Queensland.<\/p>\n

At 4:46pm on Tuesday, with booths still to counted, electors in the State seat of Nanango had voted 52.47 per cent against the proposal.<\/p>\n

Voters in the State seat of Callide were even more negative, with 53.83 per cent opposing four-year terms.<\/p>\n

The referendum was conducted on State seat boundaries rather than Council boundaries.<\/p>\n

The seat of Nanango includes Kingaroy, Kumbia, Nanango, Yarraman, Cooyar, Goombungee, Blackbutt, Crows Nest and the Brisbane Valley.<\/p>\n

Callide includes Wondai, Murgon, Cherbourg, Proston, Goomeri and Kilkivan and most of the Central Burnett area.<\/p>\n

The South Burnett results are opposite to how Queenslanders voted as a whole.<\/p>\n

Across the State, the “Yes” vote attracted 53.84 per cent of the vote; “No” 47.16 per cent and Informal 2.97 per cent.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
