The results of Cherbourg Aboriginal Shire Council’s election were finalised on Wednesday evening.<\/p>\n

As expected, Arnold Murray has been elected as Mayor.<\/p>\n

He will replace former Mayor Ken Bone, who decided to stand down at the March 19 election.<\/p>\n

Alana Purcell, James Saltner, Elvie Sandow and Tom Langton have been elected to fill the remaining Councillor roles.<\/p>\n

The delay in announcing the results was caused by the need to wait for postal ballots to close, which occurred on March 29.<\/p>\n

The final result was determined by postal votes.<\/p>\n

Cherbourg uses a whole-of-shire, first past the post voting system.<\/p>\n

In all, there were 438 electors at the close of the roll, which was an increase from the 407 enrolled at the 2012 local government elections.<\/p>\n

Informal votes accounted for 7.27 per cent of all votes cast at this election, up from 1.48 per cent in 2012.<\/p>\n

Seven candidates stood for Mayor at this election.<\/p>\n

Only two stood in 2012, where Ken Bone secured almost 79 per cent of the vote.<\/p>\n

Fourteen candidates stood for the four Councillor positions at this election, up slightly from the 11 who stood in 2012.<\/p>\n
