Exactly a year ago, well-known local resident Pam Brunjes was officially opening the Goomeri Show Society’s new pavilion … now that building bears her name as a mark of respect following her tragic death last month.<\/p>\n

Pam was killed in a head-on collision on the Wide Bay Highway on February 11, shocking the local community.<\/p>\n

The 2010 Gympie Region Citizen of the Year had been a Show Society volunteer for more than 40 years and was also involved with many local groups, including the Goomeri Lions.<\/p>\n

The official unveiling of the “Pam Brunjes Pavilion” sign,\u00a0made from timber from the Brunjes family’s cattle yards, was a moving highlight of the 76th Goomeri Show at the weekend.<\/p>\n

Family members, including Pam’s niece and Show Society president Amanda McArthur, were present as the building was dedicated by Member for Gympie Tony Perrett as part of the official opening of the show.<\/p>\n

The Goomeri Show was extended across three days this year to include a Cow Horse competition on Saturday night and a full-day Stockman\u2019s Challenge on Sunday.<\/p>\n

The Stockman\u2019s Challenge proved so popular last year that it was extended for this year\u2019s show and featured both junior and senior competitors.<\/p>\n

BGA AgriServices Lucerne Hay Competition<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Shane and Robyn Peters, from Cinnibar, submitted the winning bales of lucerne hay … they were presented with their prizes by Neville and Andrew Holden from BGA AgriServices in Goomeri<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The annual BGA AgriServices Lucerne Hay competition, organised by the Holden family, raised $1210 for RACQ CareFlight Rescue Helicopter.<\/strong><\/p>\n

BGA AgriServices Goomeri store manager Andrew Holden said 105 bales had been entered into the competition by 27 hay growers.<\/p>\n

Each grower submitted bales for judging, which were then auctioned off to raise funds.<\/p>\n

First prize winners were Shane and Robyn Peters, from Cinnibar. As the couple collected their prizes, Robyn joked “We’ve only been doing it for 21 years!”<\/p>\n

Second prize went to Adrian Sanewski, from Booubyjan; and third prize to Daniel and Kylie Hoogstraten, from Goomeri.<\/p>\n

There was also a multidraw of prizes for other entrants.<\/p>\n

This is the fifth year that the competition has been organised by the Holden family, but unfortunately two years were washed out.<\/p>\n
