{"id":139351,"date":"2016-03-21T23:48:45","date_gmt":"2016-03-21T13:48:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/?p=139351"},"modified":"2020-10-20T11:03:08","modified_gmt":"2020-10-20T01:03:08","slug":"crusaders-put-warriors-to-the-sword","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/2016\/03\/21\/crusaders-put-warriors-to-the-sword\/","title":{"rendered":"Crusaders Put Warriors To The Sword"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_139414\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-139414\" style=\"width: 740px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/20160320cricket1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-139414\" title=\"20160320 Murgon Crusaders\" src=\"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/20160320cricket1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"740\" height=\"460\" srcset=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/20160320cricket1.jpg 620w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/20160320cricket1-300x186.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 740px) 100vw, 740px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-139414\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A jubilant Murgon Crusaders celebrate after their innings victory over Warriors on Sunday<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>March 22, 2016<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Two South Burnett cricket Grand Finals were played at the weekend with hosts Murgon and Kumbia both coming away with wins.<\/p>\n<p>At Murgon Sportsground, the Grand Final of the A Grade Two-Day competition was played across Saturday and Sunday between the Murgon Crusaders and Kingaroy Warriors.<\/p>\n<p>Crusaders won the toss and sent Warriors in for what turned out to be a fairly lop-sided contest.<\/p>\n<p>The Murgon bowlers made short work of the Warriors&#8217; line-up, bowling them out for 50 in just 19.2 overs in the first innings.<\/p>\n<p>Top scorer for Warriors was Taylor Hermann with 18.<\/p>\n<p>Jamian Currin (5\/18 off 9.2 overs), Graham Brown (3\/28 off 7 overs) and James McUtchen (2\/3 off 3 overs) did the damage.<\/p>\n<p>In reply, Crusaders set a daunting target of 233 in their 45.4 overs.<\/p>\n<p>After taking five wickets, Jamian Currin backed up with the bat to top-score for the Crusaders with 52.<\/p>\n<p>Lehman Brunjes (43) and Jared Sippel (39) also added to the Warriors&#8217; woes.<\/p>\n<p>Best of the Warriors&#8217; bowlers were Taylor Herrmann (4\/42 off 10 overs) and Luke Smith (2\/57 off 10 overs).<\/p>\n<p>Warriors started their second innings already 183 runs behind.<\/p>\n<p>A change in the batting order saw opener Hayden Wieck, who scored a duck in the first innings, come in at number 3. This paid off with Wieck top-scoring with 43.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately for the visitors, the only other batsman to make it into double figure was Steve Heness with 12.<\/p>\n<p>The Warriors were all out for 104 in 40.2 overs.<\/p>\n<p>Crusaders&#8217; captain Graham Brown ripped through the line-up, taking seven wickets for just 18 runs off his 10 overs.<\/p>\n<p>Tom Patton took 2\/23 off nine overs.<\/p>\n<p>A very happy Crusaders&#8217; team won the inaugural Two-Day Shield by an innings and 79 runs.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_139420\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-139420\" Burnett B Grade Grand Final saw the home team take on Kingaroy RSL Services in what turned out to be a closer game than the A Grade final.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Rattlers, who haven&#8217;t hosted a grand final for five years, won the toss and sent Kingaroy into bat.<\/p>\n<p>The visitors started strongly, and by the 20th over were 1\/91 after opener Justin Labinsky was caught behind for 22.<\/p>\n<p>Cody Bauer then joined Glenn Kelly at the wicket, and together the pair put on a 119-run partnership.<\/p>\n<p>Bauer top-scored with 78 while Kelly was out for 53.<\/p>\n<p>After a strong batting performance, Kingaroy finished with 9\/215.<\/p>\n<p>Warren Cross was the best of the Kumbia bowlers, taking 4\/16\u00a0 while Jayden Steinhardt starred behind the stumps, taking four wickets,<\/p>\n<p>In reply, the Rattlers also enjoyed a strong start with openers Warren Cross (20 off nine balls) and Tavis Hartwig (80) piling on quick runs.<\/p>\n<p>Number three Chris Medcalf then sealed the win for the Rattlers with his 62 runs.<\/p>\n<p>Kumbia overhauled the Kingaroy target with both batsmen and overs in hand, finishing 6\/219.<\/p>\n<p>Cody Bauer was the\u00a0 best of the
