Delays in reporting the results of Saturday’s local government elections are annoying South Burnett residents keen to know the results.<\/p>\n

An Electoral Commission of Queensland spokesman said on Monday that counting of ballots stopped at 10:00pm on Saturday night, and resumed late Sunday morning.<\/p>\n

“Counting is continuing in South Burnett,” the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n

“Results will appear on the website periodically as they are entered by polling staff, but this may not be until the end of the day in some areas.”<\/p>\n

Results for the Cherbourg Aboriginal Shire Council elections were determined on Monday.<\/p>\n

However, they will not be declared until the period for receipt of postal votes ends as postal votes will likely determine one of the five councillor positions.<\/p>\n

Results were flowing in for Toowoomba councillors on Monday, and Gympie Regional Council updated their divisional voting results on Sunday, then updated their Mayoral results on Monday evening.<\/p>\n

The ECQ said a declaration of the result for each mayoral and councillor election and for the Referendum will not be made if there is a mathematical possibility that more than one candidate or argument could win.<\/p>\n

As a result, a final result may not be declared in some instances until March 29, when postal votes are due to be returned to the Commission.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
