Blackbutt and Benarkin residents who couldn’t make it to the recent Council candidates’ forum held in Nanango had a second chance last week to hear from their would-be representatives.<\/p>\n

All South Burnett Division 2 candidates and Mayoral candidates were invited to speak at the Blackbutt Memorial Hall.<\/p>\n

The idea came from Division 2 candidate Emeric Charles, but was organised by the Blackbutt and Benarkin Community Council.<\/p>\n

Council president Les Lane, from the Taromeo Rural Fire Brigade, was the moderator while Mr Charles’ partner Willo Riley was the timekeeper.<\/p>\n

The road levy, rates and the future of the Blackbutt Memorial Hall dominated the talks.<\/p>\n

Mayoral candidate Grant Newson repeated a claim that it was costing the South Burnett Regional Council $200 per notice, or $800 a year, to send out every rates notice – an allegation which had caused laughter at the earlier Nanango forum.<\/p>\n
