A funeral service was held in Kingaroy on Friday for a tireless worker for the local community, Dr Julian Mullins MBE, OAM.<\/p>\n

The former Kingaroy vet was a strong supporter of the Kingaroy Hospital Auxiliary and worked to raise funds for it for more than 20 years.<\/p>\n

He was president of the Auxiliary until late 2011 when poor health forced him to retire.<\/p>\n

Kingaroy Hospital Canteen\u2019s Dining Room was named in his honour in 2014.<\/p>\n

At the time, Auxiliary treasurer Alison Murray said the Auxiliary had raised $1 million and contributed $224,000 worth of equipment and amenities to the hospital.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a great achievement for 21 years of volunteer work, without mentioning the 1500 odd jars of apple marmalade jam that he cooked to raise funds for the Auxiliary!\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cDr Mullins also campaigned tirelessly to get the Renal Unit at Kingaroy Hospital; and together with Pamela Lincoln and a small committee produced two wonderful recipe books.”<\/p>\n

He was also a strong campaigner for the National Desexing Network and was involved from its establishment in 2005. <\/strong><\/p>\n

He promoted several local programs designed to encourage South Burnett residents to de-sex their pets.<\/p>\n

In 1987, Dr Mullins was awarded an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours for his work in the veterinary profession.<\/p>\n

In 2010, he received an Order of Australia Medal for his service to veterinary science, and to the community of Kingaroy.<\/p>\n

Dr Mullins’ funeral was held at the St Michael and All Angels Anglican Church on Friday afternoon.<\/p>\n

He is survived by his four children and five grandchildren.\u00a0 His wife, Patricia, predeceased him.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
