A large procession of horses and riders wended their way through Yarraman Showground’s gates on Saturday afternoon at the end of the 20th annual Yarraman Horse Ride<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Numbers at Saturday’s Yarraman Horse Ride were slightly down on last year’s roll-up, but not by very much.<\/p>\n

In all, 107 riders saddled up for an day-long 30km trek through private properties in the Yarraman and Gilla area, departing the Yarraman Showgrounds at 8:00am and returning at around 3:30pm in the afternoon.<\/p>\n

The annual ride is organised by members of the Yarraman Show Society, and quietly celebrated its 20th birthday this year.<\/p>\n

For a modest $20 outlay that included a morning tea and lunch on the trail, participants got to see views of the South Burnett’s countryside that most tourists never get to glimpse.<\/p>\n

Each year the Show Society organises a slightly different course to give riders something new to look forward to, and all the trails avoid public roads to help keep everyone safe.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This year, riders came from all over south-east Queensland to take part, as well as the South Burnett.<\/p>\n

Ride entry sheets showed some had travelled from as far away as Gayndah, Dayboro, Caboolture, Narangba, Toowoomba, Chinchilla, Burnett Heads, South Kolan and the Currumbin Valley.<\/p>\n

They joined up with local riders from Blackbutt, Yarraman, Nanango, Kingaroy, Wondai, Proston, Windera, Widgee and Woolooga.<\/p>\n

Organiser Bill MacAlister said the Ride catered to all classes of riders, and part of its popularity was its low-key nature.<\/p>\n

Participants were also welcome to camp in the Showgrounds, and the Show Society threw on a barbecue dinner and live DJ entertainment on Saturday night to celebrate another successful outing.<\/p>\n

The Show Society’s next major event will be the Yarraman Campdraft on May 28.<\/strong><\/p>\n
