Blackbutt Memorial Hall will not be moved until the Council approves plans for a supermarket that will be built on the hall’s current site<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Plan approval for a new supermarket in Blackbutt is not likely to occur until April, so it now seems the project will not begin operating until the latter part of the year.<\/p>\n

Mayor Wayne Kratzmann said today developer Breezeway Developments Pty Ltd had recently lodged building plans for the new supermarket with the South Burnett Regional Council.<\/p>\n

The plans are now being assessed by Council staff but a final go-ahead is not expected until April’s Council meeting.<\/p>\n

It had originally been hoped work on the project would start last December and the new supermarket would open by mid-year.<\/strong><\/p>\n

But the developer’s need to complete a similar project at Jandowae, and negotiations with the Department Of Transport about road access to the site, had introduced delays.<\/p>\n

Under the terms of a tender submitted to Council last August, Breezeway Developments will also need to move the Blackbutt Memorial Hall from its current location on Coulson Street to a new location near Nukku Nook before construction work begins.<\/p>\n

Mayor Kratzmann also confirmed today that initial estimates for the cost of moving the Memorial Hall had increased, but said Breezeway Developments had agreed to absorb the extra costs and were still keen to proceed.<\/p>\n

However it is not expected that Breezeway will start moving the hall until its supermarket plans are approved.<\/p>\n
