The State Government has unveiled its plan to cut quad bike-related injuries and fatalities in Queensland.<\/p>\n

Industrial Relations Minister Grace Grace launched the “Statewide Plan for Improving Quad Bike Safety in Queensland” at the University of Queensland\u2019s Gatton Campus.<\/p>\n

Ms Grace said there had been almost 1500 quad bike-related hospitalisations over five years in Queensland.<\/p>\n

\u201cOver the last 15 years, quad bikes have played a role in the deaths of 69 people in Queensland, nearly a third of all fatalities involving quad bikes in the country,” she said.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cEven more tragically, one in every five of those was under 16 years old.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhether these incidents are happening during recreational use or at work, these statistics are unacceptable.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut we\u2019re determined to turn things around, and that\u2019s what our statewide quad bike safety plan is all about.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ms Grace said Queensland now had one of the most rigorous quad bike safety plans in the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe plan has been developed with input from 10 government agencies, and in consultation with industry associations,\u201d she said.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cIt seeks to create a safety culture through education and awareness as the immediate first step toward improving safety outcomes for quad bike users and their passengers.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt also makes improving rider skill a priority, to ensure that government leads the way in cutting quad bike injuries and fatalities in this state.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ms Grace said the State Government would launch a public awareness campaign later this year as part of its effort to cut Queensland\u2019s quad bike toll.<\/p>\n
