Former South Sydney captain Mario Fenech dropped in to visit the boys and girls at St Patrick’s Catholic School in Nanango on Tuesday as part of a local blitz by NRL Ambassadors.<\/p>\n

Four ex-NRL players – Mario Fenech, Nathan Merritt, Petero Civinoceva and Brent Tate – will be visiting schools in most local towns on Tuesday and Wednesday to spread a healthy message about sleeping well,\u00a0 drinking plenty of water and building a sense of belonging.<\/p>\n

Mario, from Maroubra in Sydney, told the Nanango children they needed 11 hours of uninterrupted sleep if they were to function well in the classroom.<\/p>\n

Adults needed eight hours.<\/p>\n

And both adults and children must keep themselves well hydrated – that’s water, not soft drinks – if they want to be at their best.<\/p>\n

Mario said he didn’t smoke, won’t touch drugs and had not drunk alcohol since the age of 18.<\/p>\n

He also still trained regularly to keep fit.<\/p>\n

The visit culminated in a mini “play-the-ball” competition where some of the children competed against the clock.<\/p>\n

South Burnett residents also have the opportunity to meet the players.<\/p>\n

They will be at Fred Kassulke Oval in Nanango and T.J. O’Neill Oval in Kingaroy on Tuesday night between 5:00pm-6:00pm.<\/p>\n

And on Wednesday night, they will visit the Wondai Sportsground, Murgon Sportsground\u00a0and Jack O’Chin Oval in Cherbourg, also between 5:00pm and 6:00pm.<\/p>\n
