Cars, girls, polka dots and rock’n’roll music … the 50s are coming to Nanango!<\/p>\n

This Friday, Saturday and Sunday the first ever Waterhole Rocks Festival<\/strong> will be held at the Nanango Showgrounds.<\/p>\n

Organisers are promising a jam-packed weekend of 1950s and 1960s-inspired fun for baby boomers and anyone else who’d like to relive the greatest days of rock’n’roll.<\/p>\n

The festival will feature a small avalanche of rock’n’roll performers. The main act, on Saturday night, is Catfish and the D Jays which features Johnny Purser, the original drummer from the Johnny O’Keefe Band.<\/p>\n

On Sunday, a show’n’shine of pre-1974 custom cars and vintage caravans will run from 9:00am-1:00pm.<\/p>\n

There’ll even be professional rock’n’roll dance lessons.<\/p>\n

And if you want to stay on site to take in the full experience, there’ll be camping available, too.<\/p>\n

Waterhole Rocks follows on from the success of last month’s 10th annual Nanango Country Music Muster, which saw 880 caravans and more than 3000 country music fans pack into the showgrounds for three days of non-stop country music.<\/p>\n

Organisers hope it can grow into an annual event which will repeat the Music Muster’s success, but with a classic rock’n’roll theme.<\/p>\n

It will kick off at 1:00pm on Friday with 10 hours of music.<\/p>\n

Saturday – the main day – will start at 7:00am and continue until midnight. On Sunday, entertainment will run from 7:00am to 1:30pm.<\/p>\n

Artists who’ll be appearing include singer Bobby Ricks, who’ll be doing the breakfast show on Saturday and Sunday mornings; Tina and Joe from Pobblebonk; the Atomic Cruisers; local Elvis impersonator Jeff Hancox; Nanango singer Natalie Fenton and Debbie Robinson.<\/p>\n

There’ll also be novelty driving competitions on Saturday, including “bust a balloon”, caravan backing and drink driving (not what you think – only water is involved!)<\/p>\n

Admission is $15 on Saturday and $5 on Sunday.<\/p>\n

Camping, which can be booked at the Showground’s office, will be available for $25 per person plus $8.50pp per night.<\/p>\n
