Police are warning the public to be vigilant while using automatic teller machines following reports of a pair of offenders targeting elderly customers.<\/p>\n

Information has been received from South Australia police about two men targeting elderly customers at ATMs.<\/p>\n

The pair have been distracting the customer, confusing them enough to obtain access to the PIN number and card.<\/p>\n

Queensland Police are yet to receive reports of the offenders targeting customers in Queensland, however the pair have been sighted in NSW and stolen card data has been accessed in Nerang.<\/p>\n

\u201cBased on this information, we believe the pair may be already committing offences in Queensland,” Detective Inspector Peter Brewer, from the Fraud and Cyber Crime Group, said.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cFor this reason we need the community to be extra vigilant.<\/p>\n

“Remember to always be cautious of your surroundings and anyone loitering around the machine, especially anyone who attempts to engage in conversation with you.<\/p>\n

“Always cover the area where you enter your PIN and never provide your PIN to anyone or allow them to use the machine on your behalf.\u201d<\/p>\n

The first man is described as being between 20 and 35, 172-175cm tall, slim build with short black hair and a beard and moustache. He is of Middle Eastern appearance and wears prescription glasses.<\/p>\n

The second man is described as being in his late 20s, 188cm tall, of slim build and of Middle Eastern appearance. In previous incidents he has been holding a satchel and wearing a black or grey baseball cap.<\/p>\n
