A notorious telecommunications “black spot” in the Woolooga area should finally be fixed by the middle of this year.<\/p>\n

Federal Member for Wide Bay and Deputy Prime Minister Warren Truss announced on Thursday that a new mobile phone base station is expected to switch-on by the end of June.<\/p>\n

Funding for the tower is part of an $864,000 funding package that was announced for Wide Bay under the first round of the Federal Government\u2019s Mobile Black Spots Program.<\/p>\n

“This new tower is terrific news for the Woolooga community, which has long-suffered from poor telecommunications services,” Mr Truss said.<\/p>\n

“I’m sure it will be welcomed by local residents.<\/p>\n

“This improved mobile phone coverage will provide greater amenity and convenience for local residents, but importantly, will also assist in making the region safer for motorists.”<\/p>\n

Mr Truss said he recognised one of the greatest problems for people in rural communities is the delay in accessing emergency services. <\/strong><\/p>\n

A map of mobile black spot locations and the locations which will receive new or upgraded coverage under the program is available online<\/b><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Member for Maranoa Bruce Scott announced this week that two other mobile phone black spots in Cooyar and Crows Nest are also close to being eliminated.<\/strong><\/p>\n

New towers will be constructed at both locations, and the two new base stations are scheduled to be switched on before June 30.<\/p>\n
