Brisbane Valley Rail Trail advocate Paul Heymans has backed the South Burnett Regional Council’s plan to bitumen the 42km link between Kingaroy and Murgon.<\/p>\n

Council voted on Wednesday to accept a $635,000 tender from a local business to undertake the work.<\/p>\n

Mr Heymans admitted he would “fight tooth and nail” if anyone suggested that the Brisbane Valley trail be sealed.<\/p>\n

“It’s much more of an adventure trail,” he said.<\/p>\n

However, he said the Kingaroy to Murgon link would be a different experience, which would prove popular with families and children.<\/p>\n

“It will be a safe environment for mum and dad and the kids,” he said.<\/p>\n

Mr Heymans said it would work in well with the experience on the BVRT.<\/p>\n

He urged local businesses to get behind the rail trail, with cafes, bike shops etc along the route.<\/p>\n

Mr Heymans also endorsed a suggestion put forward by Cr Barry Green at the Council meeting that Council should work towards linking the Kingaroy-Kilkivan trail to Yarraman, the start of the BVRT.<\/p>\n

He said a possible route had already been identified.<\/p>\n
