Council plans to set up a mini-Visitor Information Centre at Bjelke-Petersen Dam<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

South Burnett Regional Council plans to set up a mini-Visitor Information Centre at Yallakool Tourist Park at Bjelke-Petersen Dam.<\/p>\n

Mayor Wayne Kratzmann told Wednesday’s Council meeting that this would showcase the South Burnett to tourists, encouraging them to experience more of the region.<\/p>\n

“Many of us believe that is where, in fact, we should have VICs … where the people go to instead of making them go to another destination, but that is another discussion for another day,” he said.<\/p>\n

In other tourism news:<\/strong><\/p>\n

  • Ms Jo Berry, from Kingsley Grove Estate, has been appointed to the Board of the Southern Queensland Country Tourism regional tourism organisation. A position came vacant with a Board member from Toowoomba relocated to Brisbane. Ms Berry will be the second South Burnett representative on the Board, at least for a short while. Mayor Kratzmann will remain on the Board until the March 19 Council election<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    • Four billboards are now promoting the South Burnett on Queensland highways. The four posters at the moment are highlighting the South Burnett Wine Region, Bjelke-Petersen Dam, Boondooma Dam and the annual Wine and Food in the Park festival<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
        \n
      • The South Burnett will again be represented at the Regional Flavours event in Brisbane (July 15-17) with Council working on increasing the number of stallholders who will attend<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
          \n
        • Free wi-fi is now available at the Blackbutt Visitor Information Centre, meaning wi-fi is now available for tourists at all South Burnett visitor information centres<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
            \n
          • An article promoting the South Burnett will appear in the next Southern Queensland Country Tourism visitor guide<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
              \n
            • A brochure to promote the South Burnett and Cherbourg On Show long weekend is being prepared, while a brochure highlighting Lake Boondooma and Bjelke-Petersen Dams is already on shelves. The new South Burnett Touring Guide has also been finalised.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
