Fundraising has already begun for a second Burrumbuttock Hay Run to western Queensland … and the South Burnett is again heavily involved.<\/p>\n

Last month a record-breaking convoy of trucks – including two road-trains from Murgon-based Gleich Contracting – carried hay to drought-stricken farmers at Ilfracombe, west of Barcaldine.<\/p>\n

The Burrumbuttock Hay Run was organised by NSW wheat and sheep farmer Brendan Farrell. It attracted 124 prime movers, towing a total of 160 trailers.<\/p>\n

Brendan has now begun planning for a second Queensland run, scheduled to arrive at Ilfracombe on April 1.<\/p>\n

The aim is for this run to be even bigger and better than the last one.<\/p>\n

And Gleich Contracting owner Paul Gleich has again volunteered to help.<\/p>\n

First up is a fundraiser, a Golf and Barefoot Bowls Day, which will be held at Murgon Golf Club and Murgon Bowls Club from noon on Saturday, February 27.<\/strong><\/p>\n

There will be an auction and raffles throughout the day plus lunch and dinner followed by live entertainment.<\/p>\n

Paul has also set up a depot in Wondai to receive donations of hay for the run.<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Any hay, any size, any amount … all donations gratefully received!” he said.<\/p>\n

All the hay must be at the depot by Thursday, March 24.<\/p>\n

It will be loaded onto trucks locally which will then head out west to join the Burrumbuttock Hay Runners coming up from NSW.<\/p>\n
