Yarraman’s Heritage House is getting a much-needed facelift, thanks to a grant from Stanwell Corporation.<\/p>\n

The front of the building is currently being painted by Peter McDonald and an assistant from Nanango’s McDonald House Painting after the Yarraman Historical Society was successful in a grant application to Stanwell’s corporate sponsorship program.<\/p>\n

The wooden front wall is being painted white, while the tiling and guttering are being finished in Heritage Red.<\/p>\n

The painting job has required the use of a cherrypicker to reach the uppermost portions of the two-storey facade.<\/p>\n

Peter said he hopes to complete the job in a few days, weather permitting.<\/p>\n

The building was once the Sacred Heart Convent but is now the home of the Yarraman Historical Society.<\/p>\n

It houses the Historical Society’s records, a large museum, and provides the studios for community radio station Wild Horse FM 99.7, as well as a valuable meeting place for community groups.<\/p>\n

Outside, the grounds of the former convent play host to a wide range of historic buildings and items from the district which have been preserved by the Society’s volunteers.<\/p>\n

Historical Society President Helene Johnson said the building had needed painting for many years but its enormous size meant the cost of the work was prohibitive for a small non-profit group.<\/p>\n

However, the Stanwell grant allowed them to get the front of the building painted this year.<\/p>\n

Apart from its many other functions, Heritage House also acts as a Visitor Information Centre for the town.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
