A group of South Burnett residents is getting the opportunity to learn more about their digital devices thanks to a new workshop, and funding from the Tarong Community Partnership Fund.<\/p>\n

The Tarong Fund has allowed the Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic parish in Nanango to refurbish its meeting room, the old St Patrick’s school building.<\/p>\n

Repairs and upgrades to the wooden building have transformed it into a useful training area for community groups.<\/p>\n

One of the first to taken advantage of the new space is an Introduction To Digital Devices group led by local resident Patricia Ricketts.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The first meeting was held on Wednesday this week, with 16 people\u00a0 bringing along their laptops, iPads, Macbooks etc.<\/p>\n

“This first session is to work out what they need to know. Some know a lot, some know little more than how to turn their device on,” Patricia said.<\/p>\n

“I can show them how to operate it, how to protect themselves from spam and viruses, and how to do their internet banking properly. This is important because so many people in Queensland have been defrauded.”<\/p>\n

Patricia plans to split the class into groups which will then concentrate on a particular topic.<\/p>\n

The workshops will be held fortnightly, with one topic covered in the morning and one in the afternoon.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The funding from Stanwell Corporation allowed the Nanango parish to fit new windows to the meeting room, as well as new guttering and furnishings for the building.<\/p>\n

An area may also be set up inside the building as a private space that can be used for counselling or mediation.<\/p>\n
