{"id":133047,"date":"2016-01-27T15:14:38","date_gmt":"2016-01-27T05:14:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/?p=133047"},"modified":"2020-10-23T17:19:47","modified_gmt":"2020-10-23T07:19:47","slug":"summer-keeps-greens-quiet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/2016\/01\/27\/summer-keeps-greens-quiet\/","title":{"rendered":"Summer Keeps Greens Quiet"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/lawnbowls.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-131225\" title=\"lawnbowls\" src=\"http:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/lawnbowls.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"210\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/lawnbowls.jpg 210w, https:\/\/southburnett.com.au\/news2\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/lawnbowls-175x300.jpg 175w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 210px) 100vw, 210px\" \/><\/a><strong>January 27, 2016<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Hot summer weather and seasonal storms have kept a lot of bowlers off the greens this past week.<\/p>\n<p>But with Australia Day now over and school back in session, the festive season has drawn to a close.<\/p>\n<p>This means things should quickly start returning to normal &#8230; except for club greenkeepers, who&#8217;ll be kept busy until the weather starts to cool in late April.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s what&#8217;s been happening at some of our local bowls clubs over the last week.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>* * *<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h2><strong>Kingaroy News<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Numbers were thin at last Wednesday&#8217;s Ladies Social at the Kingaroy Bowls Club, but whether this was due to the heat or the summer holidays was difficult to say.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>New female members are very welcome to join, however, and if you&#8217;d like more information just call (07) 4162-1404 or 0409-755-426.<\/p>\n<p>The club can provide you with free coaching, and lawn bowls too.<\/p>\n<p>As things turned out, two games were played &#8211; a triples match and a doubles match.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bess Thorp, John Lacey and Glady Slatter def. Des Richards, Daryl Stone and Val Jeppersen 25-8.<\/li>\n<li>Lauchlan Stone and Di Reed def. Bob Bougoure and Beryl Woods 20-17<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>* * *<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>A much bigger roll-up of 24 players took to the greens last Thursday for Triples Trophy Day.<\/p>\n<p>Scoring was 1 point for each end won with a countback if drawn, and the first 2 teams were drawn on 13 ends won<\/p>\n<p><strong>Results:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Winners 13 ends won: Keith Muller, Peter Neilson and Bruce Johnston def. Darcy Munro, Glady Slatter and Keith Raffin 35-12<\/li>\n<li>Runners up 13 ends won: Barry O&#8217;Brien, Geoff Clutterbuck and Dave Clapperton def. Des Richards, John Lacey and Alan Irwin 23-13<\/li>\n<li>Next 12 ends won: Fred Keding, Hugh Harrison and Ray Mc Laren def. Erris Vale, Bob Bougoure and Col Kratzman 21-17<\/li>\n<li>Next 11 ends won: Bob Hammond, Paul Marychurch and John Coppard def. Alex Callender Alan Rogerson and Val Jeppersen 27-19<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>* * *<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Eighteen players took part in Sunday\u2019s Club Selected Triples at Kingaroy Bowls Club, which saw the following results:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Marj Moore, Dave Barwick and Bruce Johnston def. Lindy Clutterbuck, Daryl Stone and Bob Robinson 28-17<\/li>\n<li>Maree Millard, Peter Neilsen and Beryl Woods def. Fred Keding and Ray McLaren 28-10<\/li>\n<li>Galdy Slatter, Bob Hammond and Alan Irwin def. Des Richards, Bob Bougoure and Val Jeppersen 20-19<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>* * *<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Kingaroy Bowls Club\u2019s Lady President Dianne Reed held an Australia Day themed trophy day on the Australia Day holiday.<\/p>\n<p>Even though rain stopped play well short of the ends needed, all 32 players enjoyed the day which ended with a Sausage Sizzle.<\/p>\n<p>Prizes for first and second place were for secret scores and there was also a secret score for the losing team.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Results:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Winners: Charmaine Macleod, Peter Neilsen and Dianne Reed def. Marj Moore, Geoff Clutterbuck and Kev Raffin 19-10<\/li>\n<li>A. Reed, Bob Bougoure and Malcolm Macleod def. Mark Wolski, Annette O\u2019Brien and Beryl Woods 18-8<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>* * *<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h2><strong>Nanango News<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>The Nanango Bowls Club celebrated Australia Day with a game of bowls followed by a sausage sizzle and damper. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>22 players took to the green for a fun afternoon, with scoring 1 for an end and 4 for a win.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Results:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Dot Hall and Allan Wright &#8211; 16 pts<\/li>\n<li>Evelyn Jensen and John McConnell &#8211; 15 pts<\/li>\n<li>Lynn Halliday, Bob Hall and Glen Yeates &#8211; 13 pts<\/li>\n<li>Ron Rowarth and Jayne Jones &#8211; 13 pts<\/li>\n<li>Bob Hammond and Brian Havell &#8211; 12 pts<\/li>\n<li>Joe Aglizzio and Henry Bliesner &#8211; 8 pts<\/li>\n<li>Muriel Benfield, Lew Saunders and Sue Tucker &#8211; 7 pts<\/li>\n<li>Judith Rowarth and Athol Jensen &#8211; 7 pts<\/li>\n<li>Di McNeilage and Jeff Jones &#8211; 5 pts<\/li>\n<li>Cec Bracken and Allan Ward &#8211; 4 pts<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>At the end of play, Madam President Evelyn Jensen presented Muriel Benfield with her Matriarch badge.<\/p>\n<p>At 90, Muriel still enjoys her game of bowls although the heat gets a bit much for her at times.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>* * *<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h2><strong>Kilcoy News<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>On Tuesday, January 19 the jackpot failed to go off and it now stands at $101. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Winners for the day were Bill Edwards, Darrin Welden and Horst Meyer, who defeated Marg Dahl, Lester Bechly and Pam Taylor 30-20.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Other results:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Tim Powell, Adam Kelly and Terry Pratten def.
