A series of free community dinners for residents in remote parts of the region will get a repeat run later this year, thanks to the State Government.<\/p>\n

Communities portfolio chair Cr Ros Heit confirmed today the Department of Communities has agreed to bankroll a second series of “Down With The Drought” dinners with another $63,000 grant.<\/p>\n

Cr Heit said she was delighted by the news.<\/p>\n

“Our first round of dinners was very well received, and this time we’d like to add to it by providing a free bus to Farmfest for local producers.”<\/p>\n

The dinners provide the opportunity for residents who live in remote areas to reconnect with their neighbours and local communities in a relaxed and friendly environment.<\/p>\n

They also offer $1000 in lucky door prizes, which are generally vouchers for goods and services supplied by local businesses so they benefits of the night can be spread to them as well.<\/p>\n

Cr Heit said the first round of dinners had all been organised by community groups, so she was hopeful the same groups would put together the new round too.<\/p>\n

The community groups set the menu, book the entertainment, arrange the lucky door prizes and decide the format each dinner will take, and Council picks up the bill.<\/p>\n

“Having done it once, I’m sure they’d find it a lot easier the second time around.”<\/p>\n
