Hot on the heels of the visit by the Golden Wattle to Cooyar in December, the Desert Pea will be visiting Goomeri later this month.<\/p>\n

The Federal Government\u2019s colourful – if oddly named – Mobile Service Centre trucks are designed to help residents in outlying areas access information about government services.<\/p>\n

The Desert Pea will be at Goomeri, parked in front of the Swimming Pool in Moore Street, from 9:30am to 4:00pm on Thursday, January 28.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cI welcome this visit by the Desert Pea Mobile Service Centre which will bring a range of Federal Government services to residents …\u00a0 saving them the cost and inconvenience of a trip to a larger town,\u201d Member for Wide Bay Warren Truss said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Mobile Service Centre will give people in these towns access to Centrelink and Medicare payments and services as well as Child Support information and hearing health checks.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Desert Pea is a truck set up as an office, with custom-built technology that allows people to access Medicare and Centrelink services.<\/p>\n

“It is wheelchair accessible and has a soundproof room to allow staff to undertake free hearing checks.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Australian Taxation Office has also made staff available to assist individuals and small business taxpayers with tax and superannuation.<\/p>\n

“They can also help people wishing to register for myGov, which provides a one-stop-shop for the ATO and several other government services via the internet.<\/p>\n

\u201cI applaud the use of these Mobile Service Centres, which are an excellent way to improve the availability of Australian Government services for people in regional areas such as Wide Bay.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
